Going Digital

going digital

Let me start by saying that there is nothing wrong with drawing on paper, taking a picture of your drawing with your digital camera, sending it to your computer, cropping and lightening the drawing on a photo program, then finally inserting it in your blog-post.  It’s a bit of a process, but the end product is a nice organic drawing that’s a little crappy looking due to lighting issues.

This is what the process looks like in action:

  1. DrawIMG_2472
  2. Place drawing on stoveIMG_2473
  3. Use stove light to try to avoid shadowgoing digital
  4. Take picture with iPhonegoing digital
  5. Sync with iPhotogoing digital
  6. Crop on iPhotoIMG_2470
  7. Lighten on iPhotogoing digital
  8. Insert into blog postIMG_2471

My biggest issue with this method, aside from getting grease stains on my drawings, is that I use a lot of paper.going digital

As a result, I recently decided to go digital. I bought a Wacom Bamboo Splash drawing tablet and am currently learning how to use it. This device allows me to draw directly onto my computer screen.  It’s a little bit of a learning curve, but feels very much like drawing on paper overall.going digital

Thus far I am liking my new drawing tablet. My drawings still look crappy, which is awesome, but now I can easily add colour, erase mistakes, and add layers to my drawings all while doing my part to save trees. i heart you

Thanks to happyorhungry.com for the tip on this great little device. Time to give it a try and see how it goes.
