Going Digital

Let me start by saying that there is nothing wrong with drawing on paper, taking a picture of your drawing with your digital camera, sending it to your computer, cropping and lightening the drawing on a photo program, then finally inserting it in your blog-post.  It’s a bit of a process, but the end product is a nice organic drawing that’s a little crappy looking due to lighting issues.

This is what the process looks like in action:

1. Draw
2. Place drawing on stove
3. Use stove light to try to avoid shadow
4. Take picture with iPhone
5. Sync with iPhoto
6. Crop on iPhoto
7. Lighten on iPhoto
8. Insert into blog post

My biggest issue with this method, aside from getting grease stains on my drawings, is that I use a lot of paper.

As a result, I recently decided to go digital. I bought a Wacom Bamboo Splash drawing tablet and am currently learning how to use it. This device allows me to draw directly onto my computer screen.  It’s a little bit of a learning curve, but feels very much like drawing on paper overall.

Thus far I am liking my new drawing tablet. My drawings still look crappy, which is awesome, but now I can easily add colour, erase mistakes, and add layers to my drawings all while doing my part to save trees.
